ORC Winter Training Begins November 3 at the Taggart Family Y (180 Argyle Ave)
With the days getting shorter and colder, winter training is just around the corner! The Ottawa Rowing Club is pleased to announce that our home for winter training will be the Taggart Family Y!: http://www.ymcaywca.ca/Locations/Taggart+Family+Y/.
The Taggart Family Y is a full service 61,000 sq ft fitness centre located at 180 Argyle Ave. This central location is easily accessible by foot or bike, close to public transit and within easy access to the 417.
ORC members and their families will have access to the Y Core Membership for the fantastic price of $250 plus HST. This membership price provides access to the following member benefits for a 6 month period between November 1 and April 30:
- Dedicated ORC erg room for individual and program practices;
- Use of the conditioning floor with access to strength training and cardio equipment;
- Access to open swim (yes, there’s a pool perfect for laps!) and gym times;
- Unlimited cycle fit classes;
- Unlimited drop-in classes;
- International use of participating Y facilities.
ORC members and their families should do the following to sign up for winter training at the Y:

Any Junior Development Rowers (i.e. rowers who current train in the afternoons on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) who would like to race at the Montreal Eastern Rowing Association (ERA) Regatta on October 17, please complete the following online survey form.
The regatta will take place at Parc Eco Nature, close to Rosemere (Laval...to the north of Montreal Island) on Saturday, October 17, 2015. We will be renting boats from other clubs at the regatta and therefore will not have to worry about any trailer loading or trailer unloading (i.e. it will be a one day commitment). Limited number of rowers will be allowed to attend this regatta due to the fact that we will be renting boats from other clubs.
PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO PROVIDE YOUR OWN TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE REGATTA.

Athletes will do the swim test for spring rowing in March. The test will consist of swimming a set number of laps of the pool.

The ergs have returned to the ORC from Carleton and we are planning to put the docks in the water on Saturday May 3, so we need to get the club, docks, equipment and grounds ready for the season.
There will be a work party on Saturday April 26 starting at 8:00 am - all members are encouraged to come out and help prepare the club for the start of the season. Bring your gloves and work clothes!

High School rowers will meet at the Ottawa Rowing Club at 8:30am. We will be working on cleaning up the ORC as we wait. Once the truck arrives, we will unload the equipment and set things up. We should be done by 10am if all goes well.

For Winter Training (Dec 2 - April 17)
Practices at Carleton will start this Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Practices at Carleton will be weekly as follows:Tuesday and Thursday 4:30pm to 6:30pmSaturday 10:30am to 12:00pm With regards to registration at Carleton it will be as follows: The attached paper work needs to be handed into the Welcome Desk at Carleton University Athletics Centre. One also needs to have ones picture taken for your access card. Until your access card is completed, you will will need to be asked to be buzzed in at the from desk.
Payment will be done online through RONIN. Information about how to do this is posted on the ORC main webpage.
Once you are properly registered, not only will you have access to the third floor and our ergs, you will also have access to the new fitness centre, swimming pool, and indoor track. Your pass is also a CUFIT Pass, which allows you to drop in any time to any of the CUFIT classes (see attached PDF). These classes would be a great supplement to the three practices that we have on the third floor on the ergs. Please note that theses classes are not ORC supervised and are on a first come first serve basis.

Registration for the fall Junior ICR program will be open tomorrow (August 21). The fall Junior ICR program will be divided into two programs. Veteran rowers (i.e. rowers who have rowed with the Junior ICR or Development program for one season) will begin on Wednesday, September 4. Veteran rowing practices will be on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Novice rowers (i.e. rowers who have never rowed before, or who have just rowed in summer camp) will begin on Tuesday, September 10. Novice rowing practices will be on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, and on Saturday from 10:00am to 12:30pm.

Having said that, the ORC has recognized that the 2013 spring season has been a very short one. Therefore it has been decided that the spring ICR program will be extended till Saturday, June 15. Practice times will remain the same. Please note that the practices are not mandatory and that crews will be formed based on who shows up to each practice.
Finally, there will be no practice on Wednesday, May 29 due to boat loading for CSSRA.

March 30, 2013 The Ottawa Rowing Club will once again hold its annual Ergatta to kick off the 2013 rowing season.
This year the format will be a bit different. Using software from Concept 2, crews will be rowing a 2km race in a boat of 4. Rowers will be placed into boats of fours (arranged by Mr. Tang) whose average time will be approximately the same to other boats. There will be heats and final.
Please only complete the following entry form if YOU ARE CERTAIN that you will be able to attend the ORC Ergatta, which is being held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Ottawa Rowing Club. Entry deadline is Saturday, April 13, 2013.

Your pass is also a CUFIT Pass, which allows you to drop in any time to any of the CUFIT classes (see attached PDF). These classes would be a great supplement to the three practices that we have on the third floor on the ergs. Please note that theses classes are not ORC supervised and are on a first come first serve basis.

The attached paper work will be collected by Carleton at Saturday's practice (Dec. 7). Pictures will be taken before the beginning of practice. Please make sure you are there with the following paper work.
Please note that since you do not have an access card, you will need to be asked to be buzzed in at the front desk.
Payment will be done online through RONIN. Information about how to do this will be posted on the ORC main webpage shortly.

Negotiations with Carleton University on winter training this year have been longer and more problematic than in the past but we hope to have an arrangement worked out early this week and would then move the Ergs later in the week.

Registration for the fall Junior ICR program will be open tomorrow (August 21). The fall Junior ICR program will be divided into two programs. Veteran rowers (i.e. rowers who have rowed with the Junior ICR or Development program for one season) will begin on Wednesday, September 4. Veteran rowing practices will be on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Novice rowers (i.e. rowers who have never rowed before, or who have just rowed in summer camp) will begin on Tuesday, September 10. Novice rowing practices will be on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, and on Saturday from 10:00am to 12:30pm.

There will be a training/tryout camp for junior rowers (male and female) who are interested in being part of the 2013 Fall Junior Competitive Rowing program. The training/tryout camp will include on land and on water evaluation and will be from August 25 to August 29 (inclusive) from 5am to 7:30am each day.

Due to the marathon taking place tomorrow, there will be NO ICR rowing practice tomorrow morning (May 26).
Having said that, the ORC has recognized that the 2013 spring season has been a very short one. Therefore it has been decided that the spring ICR program will be extended till Saturday, June 15. Practice times will remain the same. Please note that the practices are not mandatory and that crews will be formed based on who shows up to each practice.
Finally, there will be no practice on Wednesday, May 29 due to boat loading for CSSRA.

The Ottawa Rowing Club will once again hold its annual Ergatta to kick off the 2013 rowing season.
This year the format will be a bit different. Using software from Concept 2, crews will be rowing a 2km race in a boat of 4. Rowers will be placed into boats of fours (arranged by Mr. Tang) whose average time will be approximately the same to other boats. There will be heats and final.
Please only complete the following entry form if YOU ARE CERTAIN that you will be able to attend the ORC Ergatta, which is being held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Ottawa Rowing Club. Entry deadline is Saturday, April 13, 2013.
